Summer time passed by and our desires changed too. That’s why seasonality does matter for product lines. Countries with various seasons are mostly in warm zone. Usually new products are launched every upcoming season and being on discount during the end of the season in order to release commodity and prepare for the next collection.

What are the most popular products of Summer then?

Ask yourself what comes up when you think about Summer.

I asked some marketing students and got three main things that came up in their minds – holiday trip, colourful clothes and sun block.

Undoubtedly tour packages are being advertised on newspapers, magazines, direct mails or even on credit card bills. Plus with TAT tourism campaign that reduce prices of many tour packages in different traveling seasons. Tourism therefore has become top Summer product without a competitor.

Well if there is a ‘promotion’, there is also a ‘demotion’ on a contrary.

I’ve found many topics on the internet complaining about the package tours that turned out not as good as specified in the adverts. For example, they got an old tumbledown rented car, unprofessional tour guides who actually were just part time trainees or some hotel which was claimed to be 4-star but actually was only 3. Some cases are even worse that a reserved hotel had already closed down and they had to find a new hotel without any help from the agent. These are fair enough to ruin their traveling mode.

What should they do with these circumstances?

Sue them or claim for compensation is impossible as the telephone number on the agent fact sheet seemed to be fake or no one answers it. And it is useless to complain with a trainee guide or some hotel officers as (they look as though) they know nothing about it. These are just few from many problems that prompt the ‘demotion’, which could go much further and more effective than the ‘promotion’ itself.

But those problems wouldn’t have happened if the owner of products and services had one basic rule in their minds – sincerity or honesty.

Package tour is not different from any other products. It comes with the producer’s promise and the consumer’s expectation.

And we knew that the consumers will be pleased when the producers at least keep their words and provide anticipated benefits to them. The consumer’s satisfaction then will lead to their regularity and positive buzz marketing.

The most essential aspect to concern about is to keep one’s promise as in the specification made with customers. In case something needs to be changed, the product or service providers should compensate them with something else. This method is what the marketing called ‘Augmented Producer’ or to give them beyond what they expected.

With sincerity in mind, a business would never become a ‘hit and run’ or a ‘fly by night’ kind of things.
